Affiliate Meetings and Events are any events that are requested to take place in conjunction with the Brownfields Conference that are not part of the core educational programming. There is no additional fee to attend any of these events, though some require pre-registration or an invitation.

TUESDAY, AUGUST 8, 2023

10,000 Communities Initiative Briefing Session
8:00 AM – 12:00 PM, Room 140 D

This affiliate session would provide information to attendees on how they can plug into free technical assistance services and participate in future regional events at app.communityinfrastructurecenter.org. Attendees would be encouraged to share their community development plans and projects and learn more about the 10,000 Communities partnership initiative to connect under-served communities to capital and expertise and link transformational EPA Brownfields grants to other sources of catalytic predevelopment funding.

ASTM E1984 Guide for Brownfields Redevelopment

ASTM International is a not-for-profit organization and developer of voluntary consensus standards. Standard development is driven by contributions of its members, which include more than 30,000 technical experts and business professionals. In March 2023, ASTM International members voted to update the ASTM E1984-03 Guide for Brownfields Redevelopment. We will host a special Task Group meeting at the National Conference in Detroit to capture the attention of and gain insights from the hundreds of brownfields practitioners and stakeholders.

ASTSWMO State Brownfield Program RoundtableBy Invitation

The Association of State and Territorial Solid Waste Management Officials (ASTSWMO) will be hosting a roundtable discussion for all state brownfield program attendees. The session will provide an update on ASTSWMO’s latest position paper that recommends and increase in 128a funding to State Programs and provide an opportunity for states to share both the challenges and unique opportunities they are seeing with the use of BIL funding. US EPA brownfield staff will be available to provide brownfield updates and participate in the roundtable discussion.

Convene all Region 1 (New England) conference attendees where we’ll discuss the current status of the Brownfields program and highlight regional successes. This will also be an informal networking event for regional attendees.

US EPA Region 2 Open House

The purpose of the meeting is to highlight the Brownfields Program successful regional projects and to network with Region 2 attendees (NY, NJ, PR, VI).

US EPA Region 3 Open House

Start the 2023 National Brownfields Training Conference connecting with some familiar faces! Join the Region 3 Brownfields Team for a meet & greet with Regional Administrator Adam Ortiz, followed by a discussion of Brownfields success stories and hot topics (EPA Region 3: DC, MD, PA, VA, WV).

US EPA Region 4 Open House
2:30 PM – 4:00 PM, Room 353

The Open House will provide the opportunity for attendees from the eight states and six tribal communities located in EPA Region 4 (AL, FL, GA, KY, MS, NC, SC, TN) to meet EPA management and staff, State and Tribal partners, and other regional stakeholders. The Open House will also highlight grantee accomplishments from around the region.

US EPA Region 5 Open House

The Open House serves as an opportunity for conference attendees located within Region 5’s six states (IL, IN, MI, MN, OH, and WI) to meet EPA management and staff; State and Tribal partners; and, other regional stakeholders. During the event, Region 5 will recognize several noteworthy projects and accomplishments by various Brownfields grantees.

This is an Open House for current, past, and prospective grantees and stakeholders coming from EPA Region 6 (AR, LA, NM, TX, OK).

US EPA Region 7 Open House

Midwest Meetup in Motown – Gather with your peers from Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska and Nine Tribal Nations to spin a verse about how people in the Heartland are revitalizing their communities. I heard through the grapevine that the Regional Administrator Meg McCollister said “I’ll Be There.” With help from State and Tribal Brownfields representatives, EPA Region 7 staff welcome you to Midwest Mixtape Open House.

US EPA Region 8 Open House

An open house for EPA Region 8 employees, grantees, and friends. Come meet your counterparts, share your successes and failures, and most of all, have a good time. EPA Region 8 includes the states of Colorado, Montana, North Dakota, South Dakota, Utah, and Wyoming.

Welcome grantees, friends and Brownfield enthusiasts to the USEPA Pacific Southwest Region 9 Open House. We are excited to welcome you to the National Brownfield Training Conference and the long-standing tradition of the Regional Open Houses. We invite you to join us in an informal setting to meet EPA staff, ask questions and share success stories. EPA Region 9 includes the states of Arizona, California, Hawaii, Nevada, US Territories, American Samoa, Commonwealth of Northern Mariana Islands, Guam and 148 federally recognized Tribes.

US EPA Region 10 Open House

The Open House will provide the opportunity for attendees from the 4 States and 271 Tribes located in EPA Region 10 to meet EPA management and staff as well as each other. We will also highlight some noteworthy brownfield projects throughout the region.

US EPA Superfund Redevelopment Program Open House

This open houses is hosted by EPA’s Superfund Redevelopment Program. Superfund Redevelopment has helped communities reclaim and reuse thousands of acres of formerly contaminated land. Through an array of tools, partnerships, and activities, Superfund Redevelopment continues to provide local communities with new opportunities to grow and prosper. Each Superfund site holds reuse potential waiting to be realized, from pollinator habitat and playgrounds to solar arrays and commercial office space. Join us to learn more and connect with EPA Superfund staff.

Developed by impacted communities and co-produced with diverse stakeholders, Brownfields to Healthfields (B2H) is an established approach to advance equitable, sustainable and resilient communities bearing the burden of pollution, disease, poverty and violence. Community champions in Bridgeport, CT are producing the next generation of B2H to now foster family mental health, youth violence prevention, and economic and social mobility through brownfields redevelopment. This affiliate meeting offers a Coming to the Table Conversation for engaging essential stakeholders to share insights and promising practices for collaborative problem solving and highlight meaningful application of EPA brownfields resources to build community vitality.
