Brownfields to Healthfields (B2H) is an established approach to advance equitable, sustainable and resilient communities bearing the burden of pollution, disease, poverty and violence. As a community inspired approach, supported by academic, non-profit organizations, and government, B2H incorporates three vital phases. These are 1) remediation of contamination; 2) meaningful engagement of the impacted community; 3) redevelopment addressing basic needs and safety of children, families, workers and the community.
This Affiliate Meeting will bring together champions of B2H from urban and rural areas, extending from Mount Growmore in Bridgeport, CT to the Mountain Goat Trail, in Southern Appalachia.
Participants will share insights and promising practices for collaborative problem solving and highlight meaningful application of EPA brownfields resources to build community vitality. They will also explore the next generation of B2H, considering additional brownfields sites and transformative reuses that advance environmental, health and economic wellbeing of the communities. Ultimately, the session will advance Cooperative Federalism and Cross-Agency Partnerships in support of the US EPA Pillar 3.
